Hamburger SV is a Bundesliga club based in Hamburg, playing at the Volksparkstadion, with a capacity of around 57,000.
Seating Guide
The stadium offers everything from the most passionate fan blocks to family-friendly seating sections.
Tickets
The safest way to buy tickets is directly through the club’s official website. Popular matches tend to sell out quickly, so check availability as soon as your travel dates are set.
The club is deeply tied to Hamburg’s identity as a port city, with the steady, never-give-up spirit of dockworkers said to run through its playing style and fan culture alike.

💡 Insider Tips
🚌 Transport
The closest S-Bahn stations are Stellingen and Othmarschen (lines S3, S21), about a 15-minute walk from the stadium. On matchdays, direct shuttle buses run from both stations starting 2.5–3 hours before kickoff. Match ticket holders ride Hamburg’s entire public transit network (HVV) for free on matchday.
🏨 Accommodation
Few hotels sit within walking distance, so staying at a chain like Mercure Hotel Hamburg am Volkspark (about 2.1km from the stadium) or Motel One Hamburg-Altona (about 2.9km, roughly 25 minutes on foot) and using the free transit is the practical choice.
🎟️ Tickets — expect sellouts in this promotion season
Hamburger SV won promotion back to the Bundesliga after seven years away, and all 17 home matches sold out in their first season back. Stick to official channels (hsv.de/tickets) only — tickets bought through Viagogo, StubHub, or similar sites are explicitly invalidated at the gate. If a match is sold out, check the official resale channel, the HSV-Ticketbörse. The Nordkurve standing section is sold to HSV fans only, so visitors should aim for seated tickets.
🗺️ Tourism Tie-in
The HSV Museum, north of the stadium, covers the club’s history back to its 1887 founding. Public tours run in German, but private tours can be booked in English or French. Downtown attractions (Reeperbahn, Elbphilharmonie, etc.) are about 7km from the stadium, so plan them as a separate outing.
🎁 Club Perks
Son Heung-min joined Hamburger SV’s youth academy in 2009 and signed a professional contract in 2010, scoring his Bundesliga debut goal against 1. FC Köln on October 30, 2010, at age 18 — a club record for youngest scorer at the time. He went on to make 73 appearances and score 20 goals over three seasons (2010–2013) before moving to Bayer Leverkusen. This stadium is where Son’s professional career began.

Concession stands generally accept both card and cash, though mobile carts or some areas may be card-only — carry a bit of cash just in case. Signature foods include bratwurst and currywurst; home supporters gather in the Nordkurve (north stand).
