FC Seoul beat Jeju 2-1

FC Seoul beat Jeju SK 2-1 in Round 31 of K League 1 at Seoul World Cup Stadium on the 10th. Moon Seon-min put Seoul ahead in the 46th minute from a Choi Jun cross. Jeju equalized in the 72nd minute when substitute Lee Geon-hee controlled the ball on his chest and scored with a bicycle kick, but in the 78th minute Klimala latched onto a headed pass from Moon and finished a one-on-one for the winner. A late Jeju goal by Kim Ryun-seong was ruled offside. Seoul now have 65 points, 18 clear of second-place Ulsan HD (47 points, one game in hand), and will clinch their first title in 10 years if they add 7 points in the remaining seven games. Moon Seon-min: goal and assist

FC Seoul’s Moon Seon-min scored once and set up another in the 2-1 win over Jeju SK on the 10th. The 34-year-old opened the scoring in the 46th minute with a first-time finish from Choi Jun’s pass, then headed the ball on for Klimala’s second-half winner. After the game, he joked, half seriously, that if he had met manager Kim Ki-dong earlier he would have become a better player and earned more national team call-ups. He added that opponents have been marking him more closely, but video meetings with the manager are helping him find solutions. As his title pledge, he promised to ride the subway with fans to the stadium in Sangam.

Costa: “We didn’t deserve to lose”

Jeju SK manager Sergio Costa expressed both regret and pride after a 1-2 loss at FC Seoul on the 10th. “It wasn’t a match we should have lost,” Costa said, calling it a classic between the best teams in K League 1. He explained that Jeju neutralized Seoul’s strengths and gave up few chances but were denied by the woodwork and the opposing goalkeeper. Of his players, who fought for a point to the end after equalizing, he said he was “so proud.” Jeju lost Italo to a hamstring injury in first-half stoppage time, and their five-match unbeaten run (three wins, two draws) came to an end. Jeju sit fourth with 46 points.

Yoo Byung-hoon: race not over

FC Anyang manager Yoo Byung-hoon reaffirmed his push for Final A after the 1-0 win at Gimcheon on the 10th. It was Anyang’s first league clean sheet in about three months, since a 1-0 win over Incheon on July 12. “Since it’s been a long time since we kept a clean sheet, I want to put weight on that,” Yoo said. Of match-winner Knežević, he said, “He isn’t a flashy player, but he’s exactly the type the team needs.” He stressed, “The race for the top six isn’t over, so we’ll prepare well to win the next match against Pohang too.” Anyang trail sixth-place Daejeon by two points.

Gimcheon’s Joo apologizes to fans

Gimcheon Sangmu manager Joo Seung-jin apologized to fans after a 0-1 home loss to Anyang on the 10th. “I wanted to repay the fans with a win at home and offer them some comfort, and I’m sorry we couldn’t,” Joo said. On the goal conceded, he noted that a player went down and left the team briefly short in numbers, something that needs to improve. He said the performance picked up in the second half after switching to a more aggressive asymmetric attacking shape, but lamented, “In the end, we couldn’t turn our chances into goals, and that led to this result.” Gimcheon’s squad is going through changes with recent discharges and new recruits joining.
