The “Presidents Race,” which began on July 21, 2006, is a mid-4th-inning race of oversized-head president mascots (George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, and others) at every home game. Teddy Roosevelt’s streak of 525 consecutive losses over roughly 7 seasons before his first win on October 3, 2012, is regarded as one of MLB’s most famous running gags.

🚌 Getting Around
Green Line’s Navy Yard-Ballpark station is right next to the stadium (one block away). The New Jersey Ave exit is less crowded than the Half St exit.

Cambria Hotel Navy Yard Riverfront (about 0.25 miles) is closest, and Hampton Inn & Suites Navy Yard (about 0.42 miles) is also within walking distance.
🗺️ City Pass Bundling
The Go City Washington DC Explorer Pass includes a Nationals Park stadium tour. It’s also close to the Capitol and the National Mall, so it fits naturally into a sightseeing route.
💡 Insider Tips
Bag policy is among the strictest in MLB — anything over 5x7x0.75 inches must be a clear/see-through material, effectively a “no bag” policy for most fans (oversized bags need to go into an outside paid locker). The third-base lower bowl (sections 113–115) offers shade and good value. Views of the Washington Monument and Capitol are available from the first-base upper deck.
