Club Overview

The Green Bay Packers were founded in 1919 by Earl “Curly” Lambeau, sponsored by the meatpacking company he worked for, the Indian Packing Company — the source of the team’s name. Including the Vince Lombardi coaching era, the club has won 13 league championships overall, the most in NFL history, four of them since the Super Bowl era began.

The Green Bay Packers are an NFC North franchise based in Green Bay, Wisconsin, one of the NFL’s greatest with four Super Bowl titles (part of a league-record 13 total championships). They also hold the unique status of being the only fan-owned franchise among America’s four major pro sports leagues.

Seating Guide

Lambeau Field is the NFL’s oldest active stadium, nicknamed the “Frozen Tundra” for games played in brutal cold.

Tickets

Official tickets are at packers.com. With 147,000 people on the season-ticket waitlist, new season tickets are essentially unobtainable, making resale platforms the realistic route for single-game tickets.

Food Guide

Sports bars cluster within a block of the stadium, alongside the unique tradition of residents renting out their own front lawns as parking.

Cheer Culture

The “Cheesehead” hat began in 1987 when Ralph Bruno made a foam hat with holes burned in to resemble Swiss cheese. The word itself was originally a mocking term for Wisconsinites, which fans reclaimed with pride. The “Lambeau Leap” — first performed by LeRoy Butler on December 26, 1993, when he jumped into the stands after a touchdown — is another beloved Lambeau Field tradition.

💡 Insider Tips

🚌 Getting There

There’s no public transit, and parking on residents’ lawns and driveways is an official Green Bay tradition (homeowners charge $20-$50 to open up their lawns). Johnsonville Tailgate Village is the official tailgating hotspot.

🏨 Where to Stay

Green Bay is a small city, so lodging options are limited — booking well in advance is essential during the season. The closest chain hotel to the stadium is the Radisson Hotel & Conference Center Green Bay (about a 15-minute walk); most others are scattered 5-15 minutes away by car.

🎟️ Tickets

Official tickets are at packers.com/tickets. With 147,000 people on the season-ticket waitlist, new season tickets are essentially unobtainable, so resale platforms are the realistic route for single-game tickets.

🗺️ Nearby Sightseeing

The Packers Hall of Fame inside the stadium atrium (about 15,000 sq ft, open 9am-7pm weekdays) pairs well with the adjacent Titletown District, which offers a free-admission winter ice rink and summer outdoor activities.

💡 Insider Tips

As the only fan-owned franchise in American pro sports, the fan culture itself is a tourist attraction.
