Anyang Keep Yoo Byung-hoon Through 2029
FC Anyang announced on the 29th that they have signed head coach Yoo Byung-hoon to a new three-year contract, keeping him in charge through 2029. Yoo led the club to the 2024 K League 2 title and its first-ever direct promotion to K League 1, then guided Anyang to a comfortable survival in 2025, their first season in the top flight. Club owner Choi Dae-ho explained the decision by saying, “Yoo understands Anyang’s history and philosophy better than anyone.” Yoo said, “It is a great honor to continue with Anyang, and at the same time I feel a heavy sense of responsibility.”

Gimcheon City Drops Club Conversion Plan
Gimcheon Mayor Bae Nak-ho held a press conference on the 29th and announced that “after reviewing our fiscal conditions and sustainability, we have decided not to pursue conversion into a citizen-owned club.” The city cited its fiscal self-reliance ratio of just 11.2% and the fact that its current annual support of 2.5 billion won would more than double under a citizen club. In a city survey, 47.3% of respondents said the spending would be excessive, versus 25.4% who called it appropriate. The franchise agreement between Gimcheon and the Armed Forces Athletic Corps (Sangmu) expires at the end of this year. Gimcheon Sangmu hit back in a statement, saying “the hopes of citizens and football fans have vanished in an instant.” The club said the city had promised in December 2024, when the agreement was extended, to actively work toward the conversion, and criticized it for announcing its decision only as the deadline for next season’s K League entry applications (September 30) approached.
