Club Overview

The Chicago White Sox were founded in 1901. The franchise’s history was marred by the 1919 “Black Sox Scandal,” in which players conspired to fix the World Series, but the club finally ended its long championship drought with a title in 2005, 88 years after its last one.

The Chicago White Sox are an MLB American League (Central Division) team based in Chicago, Illinois. Their home, Rate Field (renamed December 2024, formerly Guaranteed Rate Field), holds 40,615 fans.

Seating Guide

The “exploding scoreboard” — fireworks and pinwheels firing off after every home run — is the ballpark’s signature feature, originated by 1960s Comiskey Park owner Bill Veeck.

Food Guide

Around the ballpark you’ll find a variety of restaurants. Check the button below for a real, location-based list.

Cheer Culture

For 40 years (1970-2010), organist Nancy Faust played ‘Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye’ every time an opposing pitcher was pulled from the mound, creating a sing-along tradition every White Sox fan still knows by heart. Mascot Southpaw is equally well known for roaming the stands and interacting directly with fans, and the club’s proud ‘South Side’ identity — set apart from the North Side’s Cubs — is central to what it means to be a Sox fan.

💡 Insider Tips

🚌 Getting Around

CTA Red Line’s “Sox-35th” station connects directly to the ballpark on foot. Metra Rock Island Line’s “35th Street/’Lou’ Jones” station is also within walking distance. From downtown Loop, it’s about a 15-20 minute ride on the Red Line.

🏨 Lodging

There are no hotels within walking distance of the ballpark, so public transit or a car is essential. Staying downtown in the South Loop (Hilton Chicago, Congress Plaza Hotel, etc.) or near McCormick Place — both served by the same Red Line — keeps you within a 15-20 minute trip to the stadium.

🎟️ Tickets

Sellouts are quite rare, so getting a same-day ticket at the gate is generally easy. Parking runs $17-27 if booked online in advance, or $20-30 for same-day purchase; reserving ahead through the SpotHero app helps you avoid pre-game congestion.

💡 Insider Tips

For 40 years (1970-2010), organist Nancy Faust created the White Sox’s signature tradition — the crowd singing “Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye” every time an opposing pitcher is pulled — and she even made a surprise return for a special game during the club’s 125th anniversary season in 2025. Bags must be a single-compartment clear tote under 12x12x6 inches — backpacks and briefcases aren’t allowed. There’s a paid bag-check valet near the 35th & Shields corner, close to parking lots C/E. Arriving 60-90 minutes before first pitch gives you time to explore the concourse and beat the lines at the popular food stands.
