Club Overview

The Washington Commanders were founded in 1932 as the Boston Braves and relocated to Washington in 1937. The franchise carried a different name for decades before a rebrand in the early 2020s led to its current name, Commanders, starting in 2022. Combining two NFL championships (1937, 1942) with three Super Bowl titles (following the 1983, 1988, and 1992 seasons), the club has won five championships overall.

The Washington Commanders are an NFC East franchise based in Landover, Maryland, a storied franchise with three Super Bowl titles (the team name changed in 2022).

Seating Guide

Northwest Stadium (renamed in 2025) is an open-air venue, with a move to a new domed stadium on the RFK site in Washington D.C. planned for 2030.

Tickets

Official tickets are available at commanders.com (official resale partner is SeatGeek).

Food Guide

The stadium sits in an outlying Landover commercial district with limited walkable dining, so eating in downtown D.C. beforehand is recommended.

Cheer Culture

“Hail to the Commanders,” the fight song played by the marching band after every home touchdown, was composed in 1937 by Barnee Breeskin with lyrics by Corinne Griffith. Some original lyric lines, set aside during the team’s 2020 name change, have recently been reinstated.

💡 Insider Tips

🚌 Getting There

New Carrollton Station on WMATA’s Green/Yellow lines is the main transit hub (with shuttle connections). The club officially discourages calling a rideshare at the stadium after the game, recommending the Metro instead.

🏨 Where to Stay

Staying in downtown Washington D.C. and taking the Metro is convenient. If you want to stay right near the stadium (Landover/Largo), suburban options include WoodSpring Suites (0.6 miles), Residence Inn Largo (0.8 miles), and Staybridge Suites Largo (1.1 miles).

🎟️ Tickets

Official tickets are available at commanders.com/tickets (official resale partner is SeatGeek).

🗺️ Nearby Sightseeing

Washington D.C.’s many museums and monuments pair naturally with a visit. Most of the roughly 20 Smithsonian museums are free to enter, making it easy to combine the Air and Space Museum, Natural History Museum, and others along the National Mall in a single day (note: popular ones like Air and Space and the African American History Museum are free but may require advance timed passes).

🎁 Club Perks

No specific Korean connection has been confirmed.

💡 Insider Tips

A move to a new domed stadium on the RFK site is planned for 2030, so the window to see the current Landover venue is limited.
