Diego Conde loaned to Betis
On July 20 Real Betis announced the loan signing of goalkeeper Diego Conde from Villarreal for the coming season, with an option to buy included. Conde passed medicals and took part in his first training at the Ciudad Deportiva Luis del Sol, adding competition to Betis’s goalkeeping position.
Villarreal loses in Algarve
Villarreal opened preseason on July 20 with a 2 – 0 defeat to SL Benfica at the Estadio Algarve. Rafa Silva and Pavlidis scored in the second half; new coach Iñigo Pérez gave many players minutes as he evaluated options ahead of the season.
Atlético receives FIFA compensation
Atlético de Madrid, which contributed four World Cup winners to Spain (Álex Baena, Marcos Llorente, Marc Pubill and Alejandro Grimaldo), is due to receive about €2.8 million in FIFA compensation for the loan of its internationals during the tournament, according to reports on July 20.
