I share my experiences and impressions from 15 years working as a marketer for professional sports teams.
In 2020, when the world was struggling with COVID-19, nearly all professional sports worldwide staged the unprecedented spectacle of games played without spectators. The photo shows a ceremonial first pitch event before a game of a Korean professional baseball team — a moment that resonated strongly in the era of social distancing. A child inside a large ball rolled the ball and walked from the mound to the catcher inside the ball, touching hands with the catcher — the next day that image ran on the front pages of news outlets across the country.
Although the game was played without fans in the stadium, the ribbon boards and scoreboards displayed supporters joining by Zoom from home cheering as if they were there, and I remember the game finishing amid the usual energy and fan support.
Professional sports undeniably play a vital role: they bring fans together, unite people, blow away everyday stress, and sometimes even become a lifelong profession.
Sports around the world ignite passion across races and borders. I have seen many foreigners struggle with finding stadiums in unfamiliar countries and cities, buying tickets, and locating nearby restaurants, and I myself have faced similar difficulties when trying to watch sports abroad. With that in mind, I opened this site hoping it can help those people even a little.
From now on, through the “Marketer Insight” section of this site, I will write, step by step and even if it takes time, about everything I’ve experienced and felt about professional sports on-site and sports marketing.
I welcome your support and visits.
Thank you.
