Cheer Culture

Long overshadowed by Real Madrid, Atlético built its never-say-die ‘resistance’ identity after Diego Simeone took over as manager in 2011. Fans still chant his nickname ‘Cholo,’ and proudly embrace ‘Colchoneros’ (mattress-makers) — a nickname born from their kit’s old mattress-ticking stripes.

🚌 Getting Around

The Line 7 metro station “Estadio Metropolitano” sits right next to the stadium (1-minute walk). Alternatives are Line 2’s Las Rosas or Line 5’s Canillejas station (about a 15-minute walk each), and buses 28, 38, 48, 140, and E2 also stop nearby.

🏨 Lodging

The stadium is about 11km northeast of central Madrid, so genuinely walkable hotels are scarce. The metro is essentially a must, with options like easyHotel Madrid Alcalá being realistic choices.

With 155,000 socios competing for 70,000 seats, derbies and European nights are intense, though games against mid-table La Liga sides are generally easier to get into. Starting 2025/26, tickets went fully digital (Apple/Google Wallet or QR), and you’ll need a passport matching the name on the booking.
