Go Woo-suk set for LG comeback after MLB run
Right-hander Go Woo-suk (28), who tried his luck in Major League Baseball, returned to Korea on the 1st and is finalizing a comeback with his original club, the LG Twins. After being designated for assignment by the Minnesota Twins’ Triple-A affiliate, he opted for free agency, and LG moved to bring him back to shore up a bullpen hit hard by injuries. Manager Yeom Kyung-yeop said Go will pitch in a middle-relief role, and he is expected to join the team on the 3rd. Under KBO’s roster-registration deadline rule, however, he will not be eligible for this year’s postseason.

Boss goes out on top as Samsung wins sixth straight
The Samsung Lions beat the Lotte Giants 3-0 in Daegu on the 1st to extend their winning streak to six and hold sole possession of first place. Starter Austin Boss delivered seven scoreless innings, the best outing of his KBO career — and, as it turned out, his farewell start for the club. Closer Kim Jae-yun followed with a scoreless inning to record his 30th save of the season, his first time reaching that mark since joining Samsung. Ryu Ji-hyeok backed the pitching with three hits and two RBIs.

KT’s Daniel earns first win on fourth try
KT Wiz import pitcher Davis Daniel struck out six over six scoreless innings against the Hanwha Eagles in Suwon on the 1st, picking up his first KBO win in his fourth start. KT won the game 6-1 to stay in the title race. Afterward, Daniel credited his teammates, saying, “Getting early run support let me pitch comfortably.” He was signed in late July to replace the struggling Matt Sauer.

SSG’s Choi Min-jun grinds out five scoreless
SSG Landers starter Choi Min-jun (27) threw five scoreless innings against the Kiwoom Heroes in Gocheok on the 1st, leading his team to a 4-0 win and picking up his third victory of the season. Afterward he said he had taken the mound “thinking this start might be my last.” He admitted that trying to be too precise led to more walks than usual, and vowed to go back to attacking hitters quickly, as he did earlier in the season, to work deeper into games.

NC’s Crim grand slam sinks KIA, makes it four
The NC Dinos beat the KIA Tigers 7-2 in Changwon on the 1st for their fourth straight win. With NC leading by two runs and the bases loaded with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, cleanup hitter Blaine Crim pulled a cutter over the left-field wall for a grand slam that put the game away. KIA starter James Nail took the loss despite allowing just three runs over six innings. NC manager Lee Ho-jun said, “Our hitters approached their foreign pitcher with real focus.”

Doosan’s Kwak Bin, Choi Min-seok up for August MVP
The KBO’s August Player of the Month finalists, announced on the 1st, include two Doosan Bears pitchers: Kwak Bin and Choi Min-seok. Kwak went 2-0 in five August starts with a 1.41 ERA, leading the league that month in both innings and strikeouts. Choi won all four of his August starts to take sole possession of the league’s win lead. Both pitchers were also named wild-card picks for next month’s Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games national baseball team.
