Im Ji-min hit in the face, NC forgets to celebrate
The NC Dinos edged the Lotte Giants 9-8 in Sajik on August 14. But with two outs and a runner on second in the bottom of the ninth, a hard-hit ball off the bat of Lotte’s Victor Reyes struck closer Im Ji-min square in the face. Im went down bleeding from the mouth but got up on his own and was taken to the hospital by ambulance. The team skipped its usual victory celebration. “I’m really worried about Ji-min,” said Park Kun-woo, while Cheon Jae-hwan added, “We hope to hear soon from the hospital that he’s okay.” Manager Lee Ho-jun also wished Im a full recovery.

Kim Ho-ryung homers, but KIA falls hard to Doosan
The KIA Tigers lost 10-4 to the Doosan Bears in Gwangju on August 14. Despite the loss, Kim Ho-ryung made his presence felt with a home run and two hits, a welcome result after his average had sunk to .150 over his previous 10 games. Manager Lee Bum-ho praised him, saying, “He’s doing well on offense, but he’s also the kind of player who saves us one or two runs on defense,” adding, “When his bat goes quiet it takes some of the fun out of it, so I try to keep encouraging him.” Over 102 games this season, Kim is hitting .268 with 12 home runs and 51 RBIs as he looks to turn things around.
