On August 21 at the Tokyo Dome the Yomiuri Giants beat the Hiroshima Carp 2-0. In the third inning Dalbec delivered a run-scoring single to left that proved to be the game-winner. Starter Howard earned the win (3-2) and Martínez closed out his 33rd save of the season. Attendance was 42,380.

Hanshin’s three homers power 4-1 win
On August 21 in Yokohama Hanshin defeated DeNA 4-1. The Tigers got three solo homers — Morishita’s in the 4th (30th of the year), Sato’s in the 8th (30th) and Sakamoto’s in the 9th (8th) — that produced their runs. Lucas picked up the win (1-2). Attendance: 33,372. DeNA’s Miyashita hit a solo in the second (7th).

Hosokawa’s three-run blast puts Dragons in control
On August 21 at the Vantelin Dome the Chunichi Dragons beat the Yakult Swallows 3-0. In the first inning Hosokawa crushed a three-run homer off Okugawa for his 20th of the year to stake the Dragons to an early lead. Starter Takahashi earned the win (3-7) and Matsuyama recorded his 22nd save. Attendance: 36,673.

Nakamura’s 11th-inning grand slam wins it for Seibu
On August 21 at Rakuten Mobile Park Seibu edged Rakuten 6-4 after an 11-inning battle. In the 11th inning Nakamura blasted a grand slam — his first homer of the year — to overturn the game and seal the win. Moriwaki earned the victory. Game time was 4:53 and attendance 24,632.

Yamaguchi’s walk-off double caps heroic comeback
On August 21 at ZOZO Marine the Chiba Lotte Marines beat the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters 4-3 in the 10th. Yamaguchi homered for his 23rd in the fourth inning and then delivered the walk-off RBI double to right-center in the bottom of the 10th to end the game. Suzuki was the winning pitcher (6-1). Attendance: 28,846.

Miyashita’s solo homer isn’t enough for DeNA
On August 21 in Yokohama DeNA fell 4-1 to Hanshin. DeNA’s Miyashita hit a solo homer in the second inning (his 7th) to briefly cut into the deficit, but Hanshin’s three solo homers proved decisive. Lucas took the win. Attendance: 33,372.
