Last-place Kiwoom top NC 8-4

The last-place Kiwoom Heroes beat the NC Dinos 8-4 in Changwon on the 27th for their second straight win. KIA-LG in Gwangju ends as rain no-game

The KIA Tigers–LG Twins game in Gwangju on the 27th was declared a no-game after two rain delays. Both teams had named their starters, Shirakawa for KIA and Carrasco for LG, but the heavy rain made it impossible to continue normally. Because a no-game does not count in the official records, neither team received a win or a loss for the day. With the late-season standings race heating up, both clubs now have one more game pushed back, adding a little more pressure to their remaining schedules. The other three KBO games that day were played as scheduled.

Korea beat Japan for 5th straight AG gold

South Korea’s national baseball team, led by manager Ryu Ji-hyun, beat Japan 3-1 in the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games final in Toyohashi, Aichi Prefecture, on the 27th to win the gold medal. It is Korea’s fifth consecutive Asian Games title, dating back to Guangzhou 2010. With the score tied 1-1 in the eighth inning, Kim Do-young (KIA) delivered the go-ahead hit with two outs and runners on first and third, while starter Kwak Bin (Doosan) held the mound with 6⅓ innings, one run and nine strikeouts. After a bumpy tournament that included a super round loss to Japan, Korea got its revenge in the final.

Doosan to start gold medalists Kwak, Choi

Doosan Bears manager Kim Won-hyung said he plans to put Kwak Bin and Choi Min-seok, returning with Asian Games gold medals, straight back into the starting rotation. Kwak started the final against Japan on the 27th, while Choi led Korea to victory over China on the 26th with seven innings of one-run ball. “Bin will get five days of rest and go back into the rotation as normal. Min-seok is preparing to pitch Thursday on four days’ rest,” Kim explained. Doosan, fighting to hold fifth place, sees next week’s six-game stretch against NC and Samsung as a key turning point in the late-season race.

KT’s Bae Je-seong posts 0.66 ERA as fill-in starter

KT Wiz pitcher Bae Je-seong is perfectly filling the rotation gap created by Asian Games call-ups. Against Doosan on the 27th, he threw six scoreless innings on three hits, his third quality start this month, shutting down the Doosan lineup with a four-seam fastball topping out at 148 km/h and his slider. Since September 4 he has allowed just three runs (two earned) over 27⅓ innings in five games, a remarkable 0.66 ERA. KT has held firm in first place even with So Hyeong-jun, Oh Won-seok and closer Park Young-hyun away with the national team for about two weeks since the 14th.
