Catcher Son Sung-bin hit a game-tying solo home run off Won Jong-hyun with one out in the bottom of the ninth, trailing 3-4. Han Tae-yang’s single and Reyes’ double loaded the bases with two outs, and a wild pitch delivered the walk-off win. Son Sung-bin said afterward, “It’s all thanks to my father,” his eyes welling up. August 17 marked the 10th anniversary of his father’s passing, and he said, “I tried not to think about it after ten years, but I couldn’t help it. Playing well around his anniversary makes me feel like I’m becoming a son he can be proud of.”

Kim Do-young’s 9th-inning 3-run homer seals KIA win
The KIA Tigers beat the Hanwha Eagles 6-3 on the road at Hanwha Life Ballpark in Daejeon on August 19, extending their winning streak to four games. Third baseman Kim Do-young went 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs and a run scored. Austin Voth, signed to replace injured ace Ariel Jurado, had struggled through his first three starts, but this time pitched 5 innings with 2 runs allowed and 12 strikeouts to record his first KBO win. At the plate, Lewin Diaz collected 5 hits including his 18th home run of the season, while Jeon Byung-woo added a three-run homer. Kang Min-ho and Koo Ja-wook also went deep. The win pulled Samsung into a virtual tie with first-place KT.
