Doosan’s Kim Won-hyung: ‘Our best to the end’
Fifth-place Doosan Bears rallied for a 3-2 walk-off win over KIA at Jamsil on the 23rd when Ahn Jae-seok singled with two outs and a runner on second in the bottom of the ninth. Despite talk that a postseason berth is within reach, manager Kim Won-hyung sounded a note of caution before the game: “In baseball, you never know what will happen. Just two weeks ago we were being chased, even with an eight-game lead.” Laughing that “my weakness is that I can never relax,” he stressed that the team will focus on one game at a time. Doosan face KT on the 27th, then host sixth-place NC for a three-game series from the 29th to October 1. NC’s win over Hanwha on the 26th cut the gap between the two teams to six games.

KT, league-best 38 comebacks, eye title
Focus and trust are being cited as the keys to league leaders KT Wiz’s surge. KT have recorded a league-high 38 come-from-behind wins this season while suffering the fewest blown-lead losses (22) among the 10 clubs. After finishing the first half in third place, KT went 32-12-3 (.727) in 47 games from July 16 to climb to the top. Kim Min-hyuk, who hit the go-ahead single against SSG on the 22nd, said, “Because we trust our teammates, the results seem to follow.” With their magic number down to 10 as of the 23rd, KT still have three games left against second-place Samsung, including an October 7 meeting in Suwon, as they chase their second regular-season title in club history and first in five years.
