Choi to have hip surgery in Aug.
SSG slugger Choi Jeong will undergo season-ending hip surgery on Aug. 11 in Colorado, the club announced on July 24. He will do a two-week rehab there before returning home, with the club expecting him to resume baseball activities in about six months. Choi had not played since July 16 and in 71 games this season hit 20 homers with a line of.306/.397/.616.
Lions’ closer Kim shows sharp home/away split
Samsung closer Kim Jae-yoon has shown a striking home-road split this season. At Daegu he has a 5.33 ERA in 25 1/3 innings with a 2-4 record and 14 saves, while on the road he has allowed no runs in 18 1/3 innings, going 3-0 with 10 saves. Kim said he is keeping the same routine and mindset despite the puzzling numbers.
Hanwha beats LG 8-4; No Si-hwan with 3 RBIs
The Hanwha Eagles defeated the LG Twins 8-4 in Daejeon on July 24. No Si-hwan had two hits and three RBIs while Oh Jae-won delivered the go-ahead two-run single in the fifth as Hanwha rallied for seven runs that inning. Starter Park Jun-young worked 4 1/3 innings allowing three runs, and the bullpen closed out the victory.
