Doosan wins it in the 9th for 3 straight

The Doosan Bears beat the Lotte Giants 3-1 at Sajik in Busan on Oct. 6 for their third straight win. Starter Kwak Been struck out 11 and allowed one run on four hits, including a homer, over six innings, keeping his league lead in ERA (2.24) and strikeouts (197). But with a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 6th he gave up a game-tying solo homer to Victor Reyes and missed out on his 12th win. The game was decided in the top of the 9th. With runners on second and third and nobody out, Kim Min-seok hit the go-ahead RBI single, and Cho Su-haeng scored from third on Kang Seung-ho’s double-play grounder. Lotte starter Park Se-woong also pitched well, allowing one unearned run in six innings, but got no run support. At 73-64-5 with two games left, Doosan can still move up in the standings.

KIA lose despite Kim Do-yeong’s 4 RBIs

The KIA Tigers lost 5-4 to the Samsung Lions in Gwangju on Oct. 6 after blowing a lead. Down 2-0 in the bottom of the 3rd, Kim Do-yeong put KIA ahead with a three-run homer to center, his 43rd of the season, and added a sacrifice fly in the 5th to drive in all four of the team’s runs. But the bullpen gave it away against a Samsung side that had already clinched second place and pulled most of its regulars from the 6th inning. Kwak Do-gyu allowed a game-tying two-run homer to Kim Sung-yoon in the 7th, and Seong Yeong-tak gave up a go-ahead solo homer to Park Gye-beom in the 8th. KIA used eight pitchers and still lost by a run, while Samsung’s Bae Chan-seung picked up the first save of his career. KIA held on to third place, but its lead over fourth-place LG is gone again.

Reyes becomes 1st with two 200-hit seasons

Victor Reyes of the Lotte Giants collected his 200th hit of the season off Kwak Been in the bottom of the 4th against Doosan at Sajik on Oct. 6. He also reached 200 hits in 2024, making him the first player in KBO history with two 200-hit seasons. Reyes added a game-tying solo homer in the 6th, going 2-for-4 to reach 201 hits. KT’s Choi Won-jun also reached 201 hits the same day, so the two remain tied for the league lead. The KBO single-season record is 202, set by Reyes in 2024, and either player will break it with two more hits in the remaining games.

Park Hae-min becomes 4th with 500 steals

LG Twins outfielder Park Hae-min, 36, became the fourth player in KBO history to reach 500 career stolen bases. Leading off and playing center field against NC at Jamsil on Oct. 6, he singled to right in the 2nd inning and then stole second during Song Chan-ui’s at-bat. He caught the battery so off guard that NC catcher Kim Hyung-jun didn’t even throw. The steal was both his 40th of the season and his 500th career. Only Jeon Jun-ho (549), Lee Jong-beom (510) and Lee Dae-hyung (505) had reached 500 before him. Six more would move him past Lee Dae-hyung into sole possession of third. Park has also stolen 40 or more in three straight seasons since 2024, the second such run of his career after 2015-2017.

Hanwha Life Ballpark in Daejeon, home of the Hanwha Eagles, will add 3,000 seats. On Oct. 6 the club signed an investment agreement with the city of Daejeon in the ballpark’s press room to expand seating. SSG’s Jung Jun-jae done for the season

Jung Jun-jae, 23, of the SSG Landers, will miss the rest of the regular season with an ankle injury. SSG said on Oct. 6 that a detailed exam showed a partial ligament tear in his right ankle and that he is expected to need about three to four weeks to return to full fitness. At the time, SSG had four games left, including that night’s game against Hanwha in Daejeon. A fifth-round pick in the 2024 draft, Jung hit .274 with a .351 on-base percentage and 19 steals in 129 games this season, forming a top-of-the-order duo with Park Seong-han. He batted .330 with runners in scoring position and won a gold medal at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. Since the injury is not serious, he plans to use the extra rest to prepare for next season.

Kiwoom manager: Park Jun-hyeon a starter next year

Before Kiwoom’s home game against KT at Gocheok on Oct. 6, manager Seol Jong-jin said rookie Park Jun-hyeon is “not being moved to the bullpen” and will be “a starting candidate next season.” Park, considered the top prospect of the 2026 draft, had pitched in relief twice since his last start against Doosan on Sept. 10. Seol said that was only to keep him sharp during a long gap in the rotation. Going into the game, Park was 1-9 with a 5.55 ERA in 21 games over 84⅓ innings. Seol said he “helped the team a lot by staying in the rotation all year” and that, having reached the roughly 90 innings the club had in mind, he would give him “about 70 points” out of 100.
